Life-long student

I think I'm ready to start something new in terms of expanding my knowledge. Ever since I left uni (the first time) I have taken 2 evening courses, did another A-Level and went back to uni for another year.

This was the first year that I didn't partake in any extra-work activities in terms of learning. I needed the break because the Accounts A-Level had really drained me, which was my own fault really because I crammed a subject at advanced level that I had never studied before into 7 months! And considering I was working both full-time and part-time whilst studying I was very impressed that I did manage to scrape a pass mark!

But now I think I'd like to start something else though I don't know what. I don't necessarily want something that is tested with an exam at the end of it, just something that will give me a new skill/knowledge. And it doesn't need to be academic either.

Any ideas? Oh and it can't cost a lot of money because I'm currently in Saver Queen mode ;)

  1. How about something non-academic?

Drama? Singing? Musical theatre? An instrument? Kayaking? Some other sport? Art? Ganutell?

MCAST do some part-time evening courses but they can be expensive. Something like music at a place like Johann Strauss shouldn't be too much though (that's what I am currently looking in to).

With music you have to buy the instrument (which is free with singing, lol) and pay the teacher... most sports also need equipment, but with some all you need is a decent pair of shoes. When I did kayaking I just rented all my equipment from the club each time I went, it was very cheap for members.

Probably Government courses are the cheapest in terms of tuition fees, or else something that you teach yourself out of a book. Good luck!

  2. Thanks for the suggestions :)

I think I should keep away from anything related to singing or music - for everyone's sake hehe.

I was thinking of starting tennis but summer is probably not the best time to do that :/

I'll probably try and take up diving again cos I have my qualifications and everything, I just don't go as often as I used to. And that's fun, relaxing and still exercise (only without the sweating!) :)

  3. I am a great believer in the notion of life-long education. Ever since I graduated from uni in 2001, I have hardly ever stopped studying. The acquisition of knowledge can help one's career and can also serve to empower oneself (the more you know, the more things you can do!).

There are still so many things that I would like to learn!

Thumbs up on your quest to acquire further skills/knowledge! :)

  4. What about interior design? :) I love the idea of me doing a course that has nothing to do with my line of work but which will allow me to learn practical stuff for the house.

  5. That's a nice idea :) I'll look into it though I suspect that it may be a bit expensive :/ But I'll still check
