Mirrored glass is great for privacy especially if you live in a busy neighbourhood and people can look into your house, but, as with most inventions, it also has its negative side, and its cons are exactly the opposite of its pros. A two-way mirror can invade your privacy and here's how...
Do you know how to determine if a mirror is two-way or not?
Awareness and knowledge is a great thing to be in possession of and when we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc... how can we be sure that the mirror that we're touching up our lipstick in, or undressing in front of is actually a proper mirror and not just mirrored glass with a person or camera on the other side?
There's a simple test to prove this.
Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a gap between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail directly touches the image of your nail, then it is a TWO-WAY mirror!
You can remember this with the simple phrase: 'No Space, Leave the Place!'
So when you see a mirror that could possibly be invading your privacy, do the fingernail test to be sure. After all, it doesn't cost you anything.
I tried the mirror advice today :)
