The Jane Austen Book Club

I'm currently reading The Jane Austen Book Club which is an interesting book although I am reading it fairly slowly. There are certain books that I would finish within two days; however, having said that it's not always dependant on the book, but also on my mood.

At the moment this book is just something that I keep by my bedside and read before I fall asleep. And not even every night at that. However it is a good book, and it's quite interesting to learn little know facts about Jane Austen and her work. I'm not even sure if I've ever read a full Jane Austen book!

They're those books that because they have such a high status they've been made into films (as has this book incidentally), abridged, modernized and used by so many other people, that you inevitably get to know the story but perhaps not necessarily by having read the book. And, with a blushing face, I'll admit that the name Mr. Darcy makes me think more of Bridget Jones than of Pride and Prejudice. Then again when you have Colin Firth playing both in both films, it's easy to get confused ;)

What are you currently reading & would you recommend it?

  1. A couple of years ago, I read all of Jane Austen's books (as e-books) in one summer. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed them actually, and she's now one of my favourite authors :-) I haven't read 'The Jane Austen Book Club' but now I'm interested, lol.

Currently I'm not reading much because I have an exam coming up, but I'm looking forward summer and free time *grin*

  2. Reading also depends almost exclusively on my mood...even when I buy books what I get depends on my mood.

I am currently reading "Death by Intervals" by Saramago, "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo and "Running with Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. Depending on the mood I get one or the other :)

Yes, I would definitely recommend the three of them. The third one is a bit psychology stuff so if someone is not really into it might seem a bit too dense.

Les Miserables is fantastic and "Death by Intervals" is very much Saramago, very similar to his other books.

  3. @MaltaGirl - that's quite an interesting feat (reading all her books); might consider it!

    Good luck for your exam!

@La Delirante - I've never heard of Saramango but I like discovering new authors so I'll try reading something of his and I'll let you know what I think :)

  4. I have just completed a completely embarrassing Twilight mania while reading the book. It's so bad it's great. I can also recommend Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth although that is COMPLETELY different, but such a great read!!

So cool of you to post book recommendations. Love reading those!!
