My 30th Birthday

I had one of the best birthdays ever!! If its success is an indication of the year to come then by all means, bring it on!

I started the morning with a glass of Buck's Fizz (Champagne and orange juice) which is lovely and slightly decadent.

During the day I had a few errands to run, but not before receiving a gorgeous bouquet of flowers at home from Paul. They now grace the front room and are a daily beautiful reminder.

I met him for a quick lunch, went to have my hair done in preparation for the party that evening, decorated my party venue and then went to collect my fabulous cake!

Rushed home, got ready and headed out to my party venue. And then my friends started arriving bringing with them lots of good cheer and lovely presents. We had some fantastic food, everyone commented on how scrummy it all was; everyone was buying me drinks and I had a line of glasses waiting to be drunk at one point! There was lots of chatting, laughing and general merriment.

Once the party was over we got a taxi home because, even though it's well within walking distance, we were too tired to do so at 3:30 a.m.! Happy Birthday to Me!

Goodbye 20s

It's the day before I turn 30! The 30s are meant to be the best years of a woman's life so I'm hopeful ;)

Looking back at my 20s I'd say that they were very good overall. I had my fun, I travelled where possible, I experienced life as a young, single woman and made the most of those years.

Now this is the year that I turn 30, I get married and move on to another stage of my life. I think it's worked out very well actually. I didn't plan it this way, but then again I never had concrete plans. I believe that you should always have goals but ultimately you've got to go with the flow of life, because if you try and stick to goals too much you'll miss out on what's being made available.

Apart from getting married, another event that I'll be doing in my 30s (this coming Sunday in fact) is participating the in Malta Half-Marathon Walkathon. It's 21km and if we can do it in under 4 hours (I think) we get a medal :) Here's hoping...

Where's the Balance Gone?

Another 21st century aggravation has occurred in the media celebrity world. Apparently Karl Lagerfeld called Adele "too fat" and everyone is up in arms because we're all sensitive about size and, how dare you be sizeist?

But what if it wasn't Karl Lagerfeld that said it, but a doctor? What if a doctor said that Adele is too fat for her height/age/bone structure/whathaveyou and it's unhealthy? Because it's probably the case.

People are coming forward claiming that it's an advancement that women are 'embracing their curves' but, it's not. We've lost the balance of things. It's not good to be overweight. You're making your heart pump harder and faster, giving it more work than it needs. You're affecting your bones, your organs and God knows what else. It's not good to be skinny either. The body needs a certain amount of fat to work properly. It's essentially the greatest machine ever created. It works even in adverse conditions but will work so much better if it were kept in ideal conditions. And like every machine it requires maintenance and upkeep.

So let's get back to the idea of balance - a balanced diet, a balanced weight and a balanced mind. Perhaps then we'll managed to lead a healthy lifestyle without being shocked at every little fart that someone does which is considered 'inappropriate'.

February New Year's Resolution

Am I still in time to make a New Year's resolution? I've discovered one that I really must keep (for next year!)

See, I tend to splurge at Christmas time because I love buying presents for people and if I see something that I think is ideal then I'll likely get it... provided it's not too expensive. I have got budgetary limits!

The problems come in January when everyone goes on sale... and I'm scrimping the pennies. It's a sad time and a shame to waste such a great opportunity to bulk up my wardrobe for less.

So my resolution is to budget for next Christmas... and spend some money on myself in January!! ;)
