This evening I'm going to my mother's house to use her cake mixer and bake my birthday cake to take with me into work tomorrow. I'll probably bake 2 cakes once I'm at it - so that we can enjoy one too! 

(those are actually my real birthday candles :)

TEDx Valletta

Have any of you heard of TED? If you haven't then you must visit the site and listen to/watch a few talks. Choose any one that takes your fancy - they're all wonderful. Well, we had the wonderful opportunity of attending a TEDx event in Malta last Friday. It was the first one organised here and it's got the 'x' suffix because it was independently organised.

The topic of the event was 'Inspiration meets Innovation'. There were seven speakers who each spoke about their niche subject, we watched two TED talks and we networked during the intermission and after the talk. The whole event was filmed and I hope that it will end up on the TED website eventually.

I also sold my car on Friday! I am currently car-less but will be going car shopping this week and will be gifting myself a Smart for my 29th birthday.

Murphy, Muphry and McKean

Most people have heard of Murphy's Law - Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. 

This well-known, and oft very accurate, saying has spurned Muphry's Law (don't confuse the two!) which is particular to writers and which states - If you write anything criticizing editing or proofreading, there will be a fault of some kind in what you have written. 

This is another very true statement which is often only realised after you have pressed the Submit button! 

However, not to be outdone, Muphry's Law led the way for McKean's Law where Erin McKean professes that Any correction of the speech or writing of others will contain at least one grammatical, spelling, or typographical error.

I know that this has definitely happened to me. Has it ever happened to you?

The Great Plastic Romance

Did you know that Barbie and Ken had broken up? Apparently this happened in 2004, though I only found out this afternoon, and at the same time I found out that they have actually rekindled their love.

Mattel came up with this great social media campaign about Barbie and Ken's romance. You could vote whether you wanted them back together again, see Ken's gestures of romance, send your congratulations messages, and you can even download the 'Everyone needs a Ken' theme song!

Red Nose Day - Do Something Funny for Money

On the 18th March it's Red Nose Day which is the main way in which Comic Relief raises money in the UK for charity. This year I decided to sponsor Edna Fry's campaign aka Mrs Stephen Fry.

You can either join the team or sponsor the team, I sponsored the team and with my contribution (and yours too) 50 people living in poverty in Kenya can be treated for trachoma – a disease which if untreated can result in blindness - so that they no longer suffer the effects of this debilitating illness.

Do your bit for Red Nose Day, whatever part of the world you're in!

Engagement Dress

I finally managed to find a proper picture of the dress that I bought for my engagement dinner. I've only worn it for that occasion till now however I might wear it for my birthday this year too. It's too lovely to just wear once.

The neckline is part of the dress and not a separate necklace. I wore it with long, slightly chunky silver earrings and my ring (of course!)

Where's the Sunshine?

I need sunshine on my skin. I'm Mediterranean so the sun is second nature to me. But this week it's been dull, cloudy and rainy and it's having profound effects on my psyche. It may actually be a mild case of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because any ray of sunshine really does brighten my day. So while I do love February, I'm really longing for summer!

I'd love to be somewhere like here right about now :)
