Happy Days

The weekend that I was so eagerly awaiting is now over; however, it was an fabulous one! It started off with the Sex & the City Premier where we got freebies and treats and an amazing film. Saturday was spent just going around, meeting friends, napping at 6:00 p.m. and then waking up to cook dinner! And Sunday was P's birthday and it was just brilliant. Really successful and I'm really pleased that it went so well :)

I will update more with pictures in the very near future.

Now it's back to work; however, just for a week before we head off to England for a Holy Communion, hopefully with a trip to Alton Towers thrown in and even a cricket match, and then we hop over to Ireland for a family wedding with a family I'll be meeting for the first time!

Lots of things to do before that though, including laundry, packing, waxing (permanent hair removal would be a blessing), nails, hair and the list goes on. But I'm very excited about it so the busier, the better!

The Weekend Is Here!

And the weekend has arrived! It's such a glorious feeling to know that you have 2 days off. Plans for this weekend are special cos it's P's birthday and we're celebrating on Sunday with a lunch with some close friends followed by drinks with lots more people. I'm really looking forward to it and especially to giving him his presents. I love buying presents for people and seeing their reaction when they open them.

What are your weekend plans?

That song! It just won't go away!

Following yesterday's post about the song that I still really, really love, I came across this article today that explains why a song 'gets stuck' in your head.
You know, the incessant repetition of lyrics in your mind, very often just the chorus because those are the words that you know. Added to that it's sometimes a song that you're not particularly fond of, but it's just so darn catchy that you cannot help yourself. And it won't help either because it just won't stop spinning around in your brain. You've tried listening to other songs but that one just keeps buzzing back like a mosquito at night when you're trying to sleep.

According to the article this affects musicians more than non-musicians, so I guess I should thank my lucky stars there because the closest that I come to making music is... no, actually I just don't make music. It's not fair on others around me. It would be something that I'd like though. If I had to choose a talent I'd opt for singing, followed closely by drawing; however, since I can currently draw better than I can sing, singing comes in at No. 1.

What talent would you choose?

Spread a Little Joy

Spread a little joy today
Spread a little love my way
Spread a little somethin to remember

Spread a little joy and see
Need a little happiness to be
Living the life with me

Spread a little joy and see
Need a little happiness to be
Living the life with me
This song is currently used in the Philadelphia cream cheese advert, and whilst I'm not a fan of any cream cheese, I think that it's a fun-loving, lively and inspirational song. The words and thought behind it are simple, yet so effective - have a listen!

A Dream-Wish List

Every Wednesday there’s a local lottery held called Super 5. As the name explains it’s a case of guessing 5 numbers out of 42. I don’t play very often; however, occasionally I will get a ticket especially when the prize money hits the really high mark. A few hundred thousand Euro won’t go amiss!

You’re a winner if you guess 3, 4 or 5 of the numbers drawn. If you guess 3 numbers the prize money is usually about €25 per winner; 4 numbers will give you around €260 whilst the top prize is nothing less than €120,000. Now, €120,000 would be very nice, but these are the odds to winning: 5 numbers - 1:850,668; 4 numbers – 1: 4,598; 3 numbers – 1: 128. Not exactly a walk in the park; although people have won quite regularly.

If I won the jackpot I would (in no particular order):
  • buy a new car

  • go on a shopping spree

  • get laser hair removal

  • pay off any debts (boring, but necessary)

  • invest just so I can say that I invest in the stock market!

  • buy an LED wide-screen TV and other gadgety things

  • go on a great holiday – San Francisco? :)

  • buy presents for the people I love

  • get an interior decorator to do up the house, like Candice Olson of Divine Design because I love her tastes!

  • donate some to a worthy cause – there has to be the altruistic aspect!
I have no idea for how long the money would last but it’s good to have a plan, no?!

What would you do if you won a few hundred thousand cold ones?

TED: The hidden influence of social networks

Nicholas Christakis: The hidden influence of social networks | Video on TED.com

I'm a huge fan of TED; their tagline is Ideas Worth Spreading and indeed they are. The talks that you find on this site are diverse, interesting and sometimes truly inspirational. Even if the topic at hand isn't something that you may be particularly interested in, the speakers are usually so passionate about their subject that they draw you in and make you listen. Above I've embedded the latest video that I've watched, which talks about the dynamics of social networks. Take 18 minutes out of your day and watch it - and then tell me what you think.

Premier League

I'm not what you'd call a huge football fan; however, I do enjoy watching the sport if I'm interested in the teams that are playing. I wouldn't watch a game played by Second Island to the Right of Japan against Little Town in the Middle of Russia; yesterday, however, was the final of the Premier League with Chelsea playing against Wigan and Man. Utd. playing against Stoke. Chelsea needed to do whatever Man. Utd. did or better in order to win the title and the cup. The scores? Well...

Man. Utd. vs. Stoke 4- 0

Chelsea vs. Wigan 8 - 0

I think the numbers speak for themselves :)

And to be a real Chelsea supporter I must now buy something of the following (besides they're cute!)

Did you know?

You can see more Facts About the Internet.

Life before the Internet seems like something from a long time ago, barely recognisable. I couldn't imagine being at work and not having Internet access; or not being able to simply do a search for a keyword that I wanted to know more about. All in all I'm glad to be online ;)
