Four Seasons

This morning was one of those were time just seemed to stand still. Having the time constantly in front of you subtley lurking in the bottom right hand corner of your screen only serves to heighten the fixation about time.

And time doesn't just stop at minutes and hours but broadens into days, weeks, months...

We're almost halfway through 2009. 4 months ago I turned 27. In 8 months time I'll be 28.

I think we sometimes do put a bit too much emphasis on time and age and create deadlines for ourselves that aren't based on anything substantial. We must have a career by a certain age, we must get married, have kids, own property, and the list goes on as we raise the bar with our expectations and sometimes let ourselves down (needlessly) because we didn't manage to achieve our own unsubstantiated goal.

Don't get me wrong, I think having goals and trying to attain your dreams is a good thing. However I believe that goals need to be flexible because life is unpredictable and there are no guarantees.

My goals in life are quite standard and not very precise. I like being surprised with what life has to offer.

Say it with flowers

Whilst browsing through Flickr I came across a lovely photo of my favourite flowers which are Gerbera Daisies.

They're colourful, bright and evoke feelings of happiness and vitality. Wouldn't you agree?

I think that flowers are sometimes forgotten or ignored but personally, I love receiving flowers. I know that they may be cliche` but if so it's for a reason. If flowers are given so often it's because they are in fact a lovely gift.

In the film Imagine Me and You one of the centre features is a flower shop and the florist would pick out specific flowers according to the need of the occasion. I believe that there are different flowers for different occasions but I will always be happy with daisies.

(That isn't the Flickr photo btw)

I must learn...

"I must learn to love the fool in me--the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my fool"
- Theodore I. Rubin, MD

Party Season

Summer has hit Malta and along with it come the parties!

Friday night saw that opening of the summer season at Fuego Mellieha which is a really nice place, much nicer than the Paceville one, and since I've never been to the Qawra one I can't comment on that! It was open bar for part of the evening and there was food as well, along with entertainment in the form of fire blowers and dancers. And a very sexy Brazillian dancer who thought it a good idea to dance with me. And indeed it was because he was a very sweet guy. I got home at 3:00 a.m. which I haven't done in a while so it was quite fun. At least I know that I can still party till the wee hours of the morning!

OK the rest of the weekend was spent very much in relaxation mode but I needed it.

Yesterday we threw Bel a surprise birthday party which was quite relaxed yet fun. And I made her birthday cake because now I know that I can bake and pretty well at that! Everyone commented on how good and 'moist' it was, so it's quite an ego boost. hehe.

So here's hoping that Summer '09 will be a good one and that there'll be a few more parties coming along.

Mirror Advice for Women

I'm one of those people who makes sure that the changing room curtain is shut properly when I'm trying on clothes and I get rather paranoid when there's a gap. But something I didn't think of was not the possible people on the other side of the curtain but, could there possible be people on the other side of the mirror? In other words, are we looking at a mirror or at a mirrored glass?

Mirrored glass is great for privacy especially if you live in a busy neighbourhood and people can look into your house, but, as with most inventions, it also has its negative side, and its cons are exactly the opposite of its pros. A two-way mirror can invade your privacy and here's how...

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is two-way or not?

Awareness and knowledge is a great thing to be in possession of and when we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc... how can we be sure that the mirror that we're touching up our lipstick in, or undressing in front of is actually a proper mirror and not just mirrored glass with a person or camera on the other side?

There's a simple test to prove this.

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a gap between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail directly touches the image of your nail, then it is a TWO-WAY mirror!

You can remember this with the simple phrase: 'No Space, Leave the Place!'

So when you see a mirror that could possibly be invading your privacy, do the fingernail test to be sure. After all, it doesn't cost you anything.
