A need for acceptance?

Sometimes I wonder why on earth we people have this innate need to share our lives with others? What is it about letting people know about daily events, be them big or small, even through an insignificant thing as a status on Facebook?

Curly-Wurly has just bought a new top.

That's very good for you, Curly-Wurly, but who really cares?

Even these journals/diaries/blogs that contain a zillion words about people's days at work, in bed, at hospital, at the beach; everything is recorded on an international space that is accesible by pretty much anyone.

I've always been a very private person and I speak about certain matters to very few people. Sometimes I see this as a bad thing, other times as a good thing. Either way, it's the way I am. In my opinion, I'm not very revealing even on my journal, often speaking about rather inane things, the trivial and inconsequential if you wish. I suppose it also boils down to... the way I am. It may also be because I can get rather influenced by what other people say, not really by what they do, but words stay with me, and I tend to feed off someone's enthusiasm/negativity or whatever other emotion, and because of this I prefer to not divulge any information about matters so that I will not be influenced by what others say and in turn get hyped or depressed about something because of someone else. Perhaps it's a weird way of seeing things... and it's difficult to explain it without getting even more muddled!

And the really ironic thing is that I'm writing all this in an online journal! It really is like fucking for virginity!

St. Paddy's Day 2008

I must say that this St. Patrick's Day turned out to be rather disappointing, especially compared to last year's blast! To start off with I went out pretty late, at about 21:30, decked in my personalised green t-shirt, Guinness hat and green handbag. I got to Ryan's and it was packed and I met Nat, Lara, BexXx, Mark, and some others but the vibe just wasn't there. I couldn't even be asked to wait in the queue to get a drink! Basically hung around Ryan's chatting to people and then I decided to see what Dubliner's was like and make my way home. Met a few more people at Dubliner's but the mood didn't change much so I decided to call it a night and come home and just remember it as a quiet St. Paddy's Day 2008.

Upper Barrakka Gardens

After my M&S lunch I walked to the Upper Barrakka because I had 10 minutes left to spare and I was impressed by how well-maintained it is. I remember it being rather shabby and full of creepy old men, but as soon as you walk in there is this blast of colour with all the flowers that there are and their perfume just fills the air. It's really quite wonderful.

Dreams

Nerve-wrecking! That's what the situation is!

On another note yesterday evening was really fun. We ate pasta, Pia made a cocktail that was incredibly strong but since "it hasn't eaten through the plastic bowl yet it's fine!" I sipped on this drink for about 4 hours and still didn't get halfway through the glass!!

Then we played Scene It which was a scream (and just as an aside, our team won :P) Really cool game though, fantastic for a night in with a good group of people. Then we had cake cos it's Chaira's birthday soon and both Jo and Elaine made cakes - yummy! Kat had a countdown until midnight and piled up her chocolate to be devoured once the clock struck because she's doing the Lent thing. And apparently the Sunday thing is accepted in Catholic history because Sunday is a day of celebration which clashes with the sacrificial element of Lent therefore it's acceptable to be free of sacrifice on Sunday. So I was told! Hehe.

The rest of the evening was spent seeing photos, chatting and doing general fuck all, which was fine by me! Left at about 12:30, gave Edward a lift home and then made my merry way back to my abode where I fell into a very dream-filled sleep of Sacred Heart being a boarding school and I was a border with my classmates and I was the only one whose bed was near a door and from it I had a view of the sea and a cliff! It was also our last day of school and I didn't have a school leaving book so I used a pad of A4 paper instead! My dreams of Sacred Heart are always very amusing hehe.

Elections 2008

My duty towards my country is done.

There was a looong queue and once we got to the door, there were a couple of elderly people and someone in a wheelchair who got priority - fair enough. Then at 13:00 this man on a crutch comes to the door and states that he is going in next because it's after 13:00 and he therefore gets priority. The policeman who was there had already told us that after the elderly people, we would go in and then another two elderly people and then continue with the rest of the queue. Unfortunately when this prick turned up there was a different policeman on duty so that advice was not to be heeded any longer.

I told this moron that the entry into the voting room was going to take place as such, because those were the instructions given, and this ignorant fart says 'Toqghodx titkellem bl-Ingliz ghax ahna Maltin'!!! Aaaaaggghhh. I loathe people like that. He said that he couldn't stand for a long time and that I should wait because I am young and healthy. I had been waiting since 11:30 yet he just totally abused his position as a disabled person and expected to go in first, even before other people who had a priority status! So it wasn't even a case of 'we' have special needs therefore we should go in first, it was 'I' have special needs more than anyone else in this voting building. And his wife backed him up 100% (lovely couple really) and called the people who were behind me 'injoranti' for trying to reason with her!

The DVD Collection

I bought three DVDs from Play because they had a Euro8 sale on, and the first one arrived today. My postman of home is the same one of work so he hand delivers any packages to me at work :) I told him that there are another two on the way.

I bought Music and Lyrics, Little Miss Sunshine and The Green Mile; however, the last one is a present.

I've been getting really sleepy whilst at work, no matter at what time I sleep. On Monday I slept late (01:30 a.m.) but last night I went to sleep at 10:00 p.m. and yet I was still yawning away! I think I need to buy some pick-me-up tea and see if it works.

Last day of canvassing today. It was quite amusing at work this afternoon, because being on the seafront between Luxol and Sliema/Valletta there were all the cars driving to their respective mass meetings past each other! So you see flashes of blue and red going in opposite directions! I didn't attend any mass meetings this time around - it's my third time voting and I just didn't feel like the crowds this year. My only contribution was a bit of hooting this afternoon whilst driving to my lesson when I saw a fellow supporter with a flag!

On Saturday I'm going to vote and then the rest of the day will (hopefully) be dedicated to my Accounts! I have my mock exam in just over 3 weeks :S

Friends for dinner

I have an involuntary (but definitely needed) week off from SJ Cav this week because they had an e-mail system failure last week and my availability dates never got through, so I wasn't rostered! It's ok though, I could do with the break and hopefully I'll get some studying/revising done because I have my mock exam in less than 4 weeks time and I know that I won't pass at this point :S

Tonight I had Matthew and Sacha over for dinner and it was so nice to see them again :) It's been a year and 3 months since I last saw them (when I was in Frankfurt) so a meeting was long overdue. We had a nice plate of pasta and just sat around the kitchen table chatting. We definitely have the perfect kitchen table and kitchen(!) for these kind of evenings. I love dinners like that, that are free of pomp and hassles. The time just flew! I won't be seeing them again until Autumn definitely and even then they have no definite plans to visit as yet, so perhaps it's another trip to Germany for me hehe. But this time I won't go solo I don't think.

We had a funny episode at work today. A Greek client came to the office this morning to send a DHL package (we are new agents of DHL) but it was the first time that someone had come to our branch so I called DHL customer service so that they'd talk me through the process for the first time and the client was very nice about it all, even though it probably took longer than it should have! He's actually the client of one of our negotiators so the DHL thing was just an extra service that we could provide. All went well and he went on his merry way. In the afternoon, the negotiator was on the phone and he says 'Giselle?' and then starts laughing... a lot! So I turn and start gesturing for him to explain to me what's happening, and eventually when he hangs up he tells me, that the Greek guy asked whether I was single!! So I asked back, 'is he rich?' Apparently he has a penthouse but that's really not quite enough for a Greek guy. It's Onassis or nothing baby! :P Anyway, I told the negotiator that he cannot use me to conclude his sale *lol*
