Material Girl

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays (until 7:15 p.m.) you hear people saying 'If I win the Super 5 I would buy...'

Well if I win the Super 5 I would pay off my car, and No I wouldn't buy a bigger/faster/newer one, I love my K. Then I would go shopping for clothes, so many clothes that I'd send someone (read: my brother) out in order to take over their room and use it as a closet!

And included in the 'clothes' category would be lots and lots of fun lingerie. Even if I have no one to wear them for it'll be nice to open my drawer and see them there.

I just want things for the sake of having them, and then when I'm bored of them I sell them. Is that bad I wonder?

Welcome to the Countdown

I've changed a couple of things in the layout and given it a purple twist. It looks better on my home PC than it does on my work PC, mainly due to the 'Barbie Dream House' entry. So I hope that it looks ok for you, if not... too bad! Sweet as sugar as always :P

It's my birthday in 25 days time :) (Tomorrow it'll be 24 in 24! haha) and I am accepting gift enquiries. There are many things that I want of all price ranges so I'm sure you'll find something that will suit your pocket. Leave me a comment and I'll send you the list :D Alternatively you are always safe with a gift voucher from Accessorize/Topshop/Miss Selfridge/Oasis/Benetton or Air Malta :)

Makeover Madness

You should be seeing a pink layout whilst reading this. I changed my template. No particular reason, other than want of something to do! I wish it was purple and not pink, but pink isn't so bad. Maybe I'll try and change the settings.

It's a strange, mad, beautiful world

The possibility of me going to Spain for a week in February is there no more. It's a conference matter and one had to apply and then be shortlisted and selected. My initial application was ignored, which meant that I had to apply again. After asking about the proceedings on numerous occasions, and at times not even getting a response, I find out today (after asking yet again) that I wasn't shortlisted.

Slightly bummed cos it would have been a great experience; slightly relieved cos it would have been financially tight; unimpressed by the organisation and definitely let down by the person in charge. Ah well, what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger eh?

Split Personality?

I thought that I'd introduce Joyce to the blogosphere and its bloggers. Joyce has no idea how to use a computer and is not quite a technophobe as a technoignoramus. She's in her twenties but has only been in existence for a few months really, as Joyce lives in me. She is a construct of my imagination and sometimes I let her out to play.

It started when I played the part of Joyce, a British dimbo, in last year's One Act Plays. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the role, the only aspect of her that I kept was in fact the name, because the current existence of Joyce is as a stereotypical personal household cleaner aka a seftura. In no way is this meant to be some profound socio-economic analysis of people in this profession. I don’t mean to be a snob either so please don’t read the following in any way other than a humorous one. It’s a mere escape from the inevitable boredom that one’s life sometimes offers.

So Joyce hails from Zejtun, is married to Twanny, and has a daughter named Phylisienne Fleur de Lys. ’Phylisienne wara n-nanna, u Fleur de Lys fejn giet ikoncepita (a la Posh u Beckham)’. As you can tell Joyce likes to keep up with celebrity gossip, and names for future children include Brungiela (a la ‘Apple’ ta Gwyneth). Every morning Joyce catches the bus to take her to Sliema where she goes to clean for the sinjura. And on the bus she catches up with her friend Violet, who also lives in Zejtun and is also a dedicated sanitary controller. Violet is married to Ganni, and has a grown daughter Lisa Marie Presley Chircop, as she is an Elvis fanatic. Better than calling her Mini Minor fejn giet ikoncepita. Violet is a fair bit older than Joyce and has never been away from Malta as she doesn’t trust ‘kif l-ajruplani joqoghdu hemm fuq wahedhom’. She will not visit her husband’s sister who lives in Sicily ”sakemm jibnu pont”. “Lisa Marie Presley lahqet go skola… tnaddaf l-ufficju tas-surmast.” So Violet is very proud of her, although she doesn’t let her go to Paceville because she’s heard horror stories. They’re also got a dog, a white poodle, called Jewel of the Nile. Violet’s sinjura also lives in Sliema but is soon moving to Portomaso, giving Violet an extra room to clean, since she and her husband each have their own bedrooms in the new place. Joyce and Violet don’t understand the concept but say nothing.

I sometimes change into Joyce mid-conversation which surprises whoever I’m talking to but it’s a laugh. When you suddenly go “iiiiiiii kos, x’affarijiet dawn” it’s funny in any situation.

Newbie

This afternoon I had an interview/meeting with this man, thanks to this man! :)

It went very well and it was great to see that there are opportunities for Communications graduates, such as myself, in the electronic publishing field. The thing I didn't want, and one of the reasons why I left my previous job, was to be stuck in a job purely for the sake of the income. If I wanted to be a secretary I would have attended secratarial college and qualified in that area. But I think that this is a great opportunity and am really looking forward to getting into things.

Martin has said/promised/acceded to update his withering, dust-covered blog with an entry regarding the brain drain that our island is currently experiencing. (Don't steal his idea!!)

It seems like a trip to Hanks is in order tonight with my female ex-colleagues, and I have to be there in 30 minutes which means that I should unlock these virtual chains that keeped me seated to my chair and engrossed to this screen, get out of my suit, into my jeans and hit the road Jack!

Advertising Space

I want to create a business website for my mother so that she can market her home-made, uniquely creative beautiful jewellery.

But I don't know where one buys webspace from. Alternatively can one get free space but still have a domain name, i.e. not a geocities one?

Barbie's Dream House

My latest obsession is my own place. No, I don't have one, and no, I'm not about to get one anytime soon. But I know what I want, which can be a problem to find.

This is a very simple plan of what I'm after

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

But then again what I'm after is very simple. I don't want lots of rooms that I then have to fill with furniture and therefore have to clean! I want space and light. The only thing I might add to that plan somewhere is a utility room/box room for storage. But otherwise that's how it looks in my head. Well with wooden floors and plants and a wide-screen TV and leather sofas, and my basset hound (which I haven't got yet, hence the need for the yard). And a modern kitchen with shiny appliances.

Afterthought I also need a study for my computers (which I will eventually have) and all my books (of which I have loads of already, and they'll only keep increasing).

Self-declared nerd

Why do I insist on eating Doritos Chilli Heatwave when my mouth increases disproportionately in size after each chip and I have to take a swig of water. And why do I take water when it's actually orange juice that helps your mouth find some solace from the self-imposed torture?

--------------------------------------------

4 months on and I'm still gushing about uni and how wonderful it is, and how going back there was the best decision I ever took. I suppose not being the shy, retiring type helps. It didn't take me long to inflict myself on my classmates and lecturers, with my out-of-turn comments and unasked for opinions! And the ever-persuasive speech about how it's not actually 08:10 but 08:05, and therefore I should be allowed in, have you thought of asking for a new watch for Christmas, well I'm already sitting down now so we might as well continue, now it's 08:10 and we've lost 5 minutes of the lecture, so what are we talking about today?

First semester was very enjoyable to say the least. I think second semester will be just as good, with topics like Cyber Culture, E-Commerce and Graphics. Then there are a couple which I signed up for and have absolutely no idea what to expect! The element of surprise reigns supreme within the faculty.

-----------------------------------------

Things are looking up on the job front; however, I shan't expand further for now except to say a big Thanks.

The Town Crier

I'm going to be out of a job in a couple of weeks! So if anyone knows of anything part-time (3 times a week in the afternoons or evenings) please let me know. It will be a great Birthday present :)

Worming my way through books

Prep is the book that I have just finished reading and I have nothing but praise for it. A book like this makes me want to read more of the author's work, but since this is her debut novel I have to wait a while until the next one is published (although it's on the way). It will probably appeal more to females because the main character is female, but it's not the stereotypical chick-lit at all.

Jodi Picoult is another author whose books I want to buy more of. I read 'My Sister's Keeper' and it was so intense and thought-provoking that I couldn't shut up about it and recommended it to just about everyone.

It's never who you want it to be

Update re: the work dilemma. It might not be SO bad. What basically happened is that one of the employees is off to the UK to study, so we are now only 2 employees working during the week, ergo that means more shifts and more pay. I hope they don't decide to go on an employment rampage as they did a couple of months ago where we ended up being 6 part-time employees!!

Also I'm hoping that my web-site monitoring role will come into being soon enough, cos that will not only help in the financial sector but also in the experience sector. Blogging and browsing just doesn't qualify as enough experience to enter the Internet field! *grin*

And then it's back to uni next week which is good. I need to get back to that institute of academia. I want to be back in class discussing and arguing... I like that :)

Job hunt

This week is assignment week and I'm definitely being kept busy with those; however, I know that I have way too much time on my hands and not enough money in my pocket. I want to find some freelance work or possibly a second part-time job. Does anyone know of anyone who is hiring or possible opportunities?

[edit]

Did I curse myself by writing this post? This morning the GM called and said that they were reducing the opening times of work! That means less shifts, less hours, less pay. Saying that I am well and truly screwed is a clear summation of the way I'm feeling. Added to that, I just cannot concentrate on an assignment that I've been trying to compile and make sense of. I've kept myself busy with house chores instead... when washing the plates is better than typing out words you know you've reached a low point! And I shan't even mention the lovey-dovey part of my life right now cos then I might be tempted to search for a blade (please excuse the melodrama and hyperbolization).
